I bet you noticed something differently but a little familiar this morning when you logged into your facebook acount. Nope there is nothing wrong with your business page. Facebook simply converted over all business pages over to Facebook Timeline. For a few weeks now I’ve been playing around with some of the cool stuff the timeline format can do for you. I won’t get into all of the features in this post, but I have shared a few facebook timeline for pages features in a previous post that you can read. But I will tell you I’m actually quite excited.
The new Timeline for pages has been fun to use and simply awesome. I must admit I was a bit intimidated and resistant to change in the beginning. Facebook makes so many changes and at times I don’t really believe that the pages are beneficial. Some are quite annoying (like adds in my timeline on my personal profile), but over all I believe facebook is doing what’s best for their product. And what else would we want as those that are using this product.
One of the biggest things that I am totally excited about when it comes to the change is the messaging capabilities. I’m so so very in love with this. I was very disappointed that there was no way to send or receive messages on a person’s timeline. You would have to post your question or concern directly on the wall because you didn’t know who were the administrators for that page. But now you the consumer have the power to send a message to a page. In my head I think this is absolutely awesome. From a customer service standpoint it’s great. Problems, issues, and/or concerns can now be addressed swiftly instead of sifting through your wall post to look for them. You never want your client to feel over looked or as if you do not care about them and have the message capability can help with that.
What about my Welcome page?
Remember those different pages we were able to create? At one point we were able to create a welcome page (or any kind of custom page) to help us standout, or define our brand a bit more. Well that feature has not disappeared. With the new Facebook timeline for pages your welcome page has now been moved to the apps section. When someone comes to your business timeline they will land on your wall. They will NOT see your welcome page as your “landing page”. When I first noticed this I was a little disappointed because I knew clients specifically designed their welcome page to encourage sign-ups for their email list. However now there is an app section that you can use to help drive traffic back to your site.
There are a variety of apps that can be used in this section. Please be wise and use this section carefully so that you can ensure you are growing your business.
I hope all of this information has been very helpful for you. If you are still a little bit timid about the new facebook timeline for pages and all that it can do please visit Learn Facebook Pages to help you. Ready or not Facebook timeline for pages will be here tomorrow.
