Do You Tell Yourself Lies?

For a while now I have been the main income in our household. My husband recently got a new job and is currently in training. This means he has to be out the house by 4:45 am. That leaves me with getting my little one ready to head over to my mother-in-law’s house. This is probably sad to say, but I really miss my husband being home taking care of our family, because I was able to get more sleep. However the brighter side to all of this is that I get to work earlier, which I really love.

My morning commutes are usually the time I spend reflecting on yesterday, telling God how grateful I am that he woke me up this morning and also preparing myself for today. This morning however was a little different. You see, I haven’t worked out (I enjoy running) in over 2 weeks, and its showing. So this morning I ran up the hill to my mother-in-law’s apartment, and then ran up some stairs to catch the bus. With this crazy heat we’ve been having and today’s air quality being a code orange, needless to say I was sweating and totally exhausted. But I felt so good! Why? Because I truly enjoy running. That little bit of running really did something to my body and I had to think, why am I not running.

Well the “reason” is because I need new sneakers. Yup, within two months of buying my running shoes they wore out and I began to get shin splints. I do the elliptical machine to supplement, but it is just not the same. So if the problem is I need running shoes then why won’t I get any. My “reason” is I don’t have the money. To be honest, I do have the money, but I prefer to spend it on things that will help me produce more income from my business. At least that’s what I’m telling myself. It dawn on me that I spend quite a bit of money on none income producing “stuff” and the benefits of me running far more out weights the “benefits” of the “stuff” I bought. So today, I’m going to purchase me a pair of running shoes and get going.

Well I tell you this story to ask you what are the lies that you are telling yourself? Do you have time throughout the day to reflect on your life? If not, why? Is it because you are too busy and you have too much to do? Or is that what you are telling yourself? I bet having a full time job, doing laundry, cooking dinner, and spending time with your kids has got you completely overwhelmed and tired, that you have no time for anything else. Well I’m sorry to say, those are lies that you are telling yourself. If you want to achieve success in any area of your life it’s time to be honest. Ask yourself how can one woman seem to do it all and have it all, while I struggle? Take inventory (honest inventory) of everything you do throughout the day. Not what’s on your to do list, but the things you actually do. You’ll see how much time you spend on non-income producing activities (activities that don’t even stimulate your body and mind) and you’ll make that shift.

    Hi Felicia

I so get this “Take inventory of everything you do throughout the
day. Not what’s on your to do list, but the things you actually do.
You’ll see how much time you spend on non-income producing activities…” It’s one of the things I say to myself first and then to my clients – when you reflect on the end of the day, of that day, are you pleased with the results?

Your message was a reminder to me to take inventory – because non-income producing is definitely not part of the plan :)   Thx!

Yes!! Non-income producing is not apart of the plan.  So we have to constantly remind ourselves to be on watch so to speak of how we are spending our time.  I’m so glad you are able to share this kind of stuff with your clients as well. Thanks for sharing!!!
