As with anything you always have to be on the lookout for the next big thing. And right about now it’s all about going mobile. People are on their mobile phones all day and every day. Even text messages are being opened at an extremely higher rate than emails. So what about your business? How can you go mobile with your business? First if you have a website let’s start there. If you are using wordpress to run your business site and blog than you don’t have to feel left in the cold by the new mobile websites. There is no need for you to go out and create another website. Actually because wordpress is open source people have been creating various plugin to help expand your site, even allowing you to be completive in the mobile arena. So to help you stay relevant and appeal to more customers and clients below are a few plugins that you may want to use to help your site go mobile.
The first plugin I would like to suggest is WordPress Mobile edition. From various reviews it said to be very user-friendly, I even heard that it allows you to comment from your phone as well (awesome!!!). You can find this plugin by searching the plug-in section in your dashboard or If you can’t find it there, you can download it from WordPress.org’s plug-in section.
One word of caution: If you have one of the smaller mobile phones, avoid the popular Carrington theme recommended on the WordPress.org WordPress Mobile editions page.)
According to WordPress.org, this plug-in works particularly well on Blackberries, iPhones, Androids, touch phones, all wireless, and PDA.
Advertising, Anyone?
If you want to display ads, the Mippin Mobilize plug-in (also found at WordPress.org) is a configuration-free plug in. It works by redirecting other mobile users to Mippin’s rendering of your blog. This is a nice plug-in, because it scales photographs to conform to your mobile site visitor’s screen width, and converts vides to 3G format.
Customization, Anyone?
If you’d rather customize your blog theme somewhat, a plug-in you might like is MobilePress. This one isn’t available at WordPress.org, but you can find it on its home site, mobilepress.co.za/.
It’s biggest benefit: Allowing you to use customized themes, and it also allows specific themes for the iPhone, as well as the Opera Mini browser and Windows CE Mobile. (Surprisingly simple to install!)
