About a little more than a month ago I heard about a site called Pinterest. I didn’t know what it was so I completely ignored it. Then as I was searching around for good information to read on social media I found an article (can’t remember where) that talked about pinterest and how it’s the fastest growing new social media channel today. I took a look and did not get it. I mean all I saw was pictures. How could this be so amazing and more addicting than facebook and twitter. Well I decided to check it out and asked on facebook if anyone is apart of it could they give me an invite.
What is Pinterest?
Well I got my invite and started to create my account. I still didn’t get it but I just followed the promps and used facebook to help me follow or invite others on pinterest. I then created my first board. What’s a board? You remember those boards that pinned stuff too when you were younger. You used pushpins and pinned all kinds of stuff onto your board. Well that’s basically what a board is in pinterest. I created a couple of boards and then left everything alone. Then a few weeks later in the coaching group I’m a part of I notice someone was talking about pinterest. Then my mentor started talking about it as well. So i went back to pinterest and really tried to figure this whole thing out.
What I have gathered is that pinterest is a place where people are connected via their interests, regardless of what it is. Each individual board is a topic you are interested in and you post pictures to that board. People that have similar interests can see your board and can choose to like (similar to facebook) or repin (similar to retweeting) your photo. This to me is quite interesting.
I must say that I haven’t dug deep into pinterest too much. I”m still trying to master the other social media tools out there. However, I did notice that some of my pins were repined immediately or liked as soon as it was pinned. Also I’m gathering that pinterest can be another tool to use to research your target audience so you can get a really clear picture on it.
